Anne Womack is an accomplished painter of still lifes. Her interest and aptitude in painting began as a child. Her early painting primarily concentrated on rural landscapes of Mississippi and Louisiana. She pursued painting independently, while also studying art and painting at colleges and universities in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.
While her range of subject matter extends to portraits and landscapes, Anne’s passion is still life. She is fascinated by light, shadow, reflection, and the interplay of colors between objects. Her compositions capitalize on the contrast of the organics of fruits and flowers when paired with glass and porcelain. Bold yet controlled strokes of color are used to capture the ripples and folds of fabric, objects reflected on polished wood surfaces, and splashes of color reflected in glass. You sense her love of color straight from the tube and the feel of the paint.
Her medium of choice is oil on canvas, usually with an underpainting of acrylic. Using the camera as a supplement to her sketchbook, she creates compositions that suggest a story narrative. The paintings have a traditional feel, with a touch of the contemporary. Subject matter is selected based on textures, shapes, reflections and color harmony to develop compositions that present everyday objects in a new way.
Anne Womack, a native of Meridian, Mississippi, has been a resident of Plano, Texas since 1982. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and a Masters of Library Science degree from Louisiana State University. Until her recent retirement in early 2009, she was a librarian for the City of Plano, TX.
